FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is FontCatalog?
FontCatalog was developed to identify fonts. A type specimen book on screen that represents your active fonts. Automatically organized in categories to allow for a quick look-up.
Finally no need to print out sheets and sheets of type samples!
To make it more flexible, FontCatalog lets you activate fonts from your collection, one at a time or a whole folder at once.
Can I load my complete font collection into FontCatalog?
FontCatalog can show as many fonts as your system will allow. The limit is determined by the amount of memory available.
However, it is not necessary to have all your fonts activated. Once FontCatalog knows the location of your font collection(s), you can use FontCatalog's ability to find and activate only the fonts of your interest.
How do I tell FontCatalog where my fonts are?
The first time that you click the More... button, FontCatalog prompts you to locate your fonts folder (do NOT select the System Fonts folder; FontCatalog already knows where it is!). If you have more than one font collection, Option-click the More... button to force FontCatalog to prompt for its location. You can also choose Select Font Source... in the File menu.
Where are my fonts when I relaunch FontCatalog?
FontCatalog is designed to start up showing only the fonts that are already activated (System fonts and Users fonts in the Library folder).
FontCatalog knows where your fonts are after you select your Font Source (File -> Select Font Source).
Your fonts may not be active but are listed in the Assets window (File -> Show Assets).
You can activate your known fonts by either:
- double-clicking individual font names in the Assets window.
- double-clicking a complete category in the Assets window.
- Pressing the More button in the category of your interest in the main window.
Can I keep my fonts active after I quit FontCatalog?
Yes. You must have font activation set to All Programs. This can be set in the Preferences window.
FontCatalog sometimes unexpectedly quits. Why?
This may happen when FontCatalog encounters a problem with a font. Most font problems are dealt with internally, but not all. TrueType fonts for Windows are known to have caused failures on the Mac. Please report to
tech support which particular fonts cause a problem.
Serial number does not unlock FontCatalog!
1.Make sure that you enter the serial number correctly. We suggest that you Copy the number from our confirmation email and Paste it into the Serial Number field.
